Eighty-four people. A row of Geotrek vans. Four days on the Oregon Coast filled with horseback riding, crabbing, hiking, kiteboarding, shared meals and nights around the fire.
It had all the makings of an unforgettable trip.
But the Oregon Coast Owners Meetup was about more than the activities on the schedule. It was about what happens after someone brings home a Geotrek and starts building a life around where it can take them.
As Geotrek Customer Success Manager Matt Mcgee put it, a high-quality van is only part of the story.
The other part is what you do with it and the community you become part of along the way.
The vans brought everyone together
Some owners arrived already knowing one another through the Geotrek community. Others were attending their first meetup and meeting fellow owners face to face for the first time.
Before long, people who had just met were sharing meals, swapping stories and making plans for the next adventure.
One owner described the community:
“Coming from not having a big community of my own or a big family, this has become our family.”
Another shared the same feeling in a different way:
“You need a place to stay, you always have a driveway to park in.”
A reason to work less and live more
For one Geotrek owner, the van changed more than how she traveled. It changed how she thought about her life.
“My entire life was basically my career,” she said. “I think I was kind of lost in that cycle a lot of us get into in our jobs, where you’re stressed, and you go home, and you’re doing the stress and the day-to-day things, and you don’t have that next thing to look forward to.”
She’d been telling people for fifteen or twenty years that when she retired, she wanted to get a van and go see the country. When she started looking, she came across Geotrek early and stuck with it. Now, the plan has shifted from someday to now: work less, be in the van more, as much as possible.
“The van has completely altered how I approach my life,” she said. “It’s fulfilling dreams that I’ve had for a lifetime.”
Four days on the Oregon Coast
Of course, there was also plenty of adventure.
Owners rode horses along the beach, hiked the coastline, went kiteboarding and spent a morning crabbing at Jetty Fishery.
One group pulled up 16 crabs before measuring the catch and discovering that six were large enough to keep. Gloves, they quickly learned, would have been useful.
There were appetizers, evenings around the fire, campfire songs and mornings spent deciding what to explore next.
Small, thoughtful moments stood out too. Owners Lauren and Patrick made ceramic vessels for everyone attending, giving each person a handmade reminder of the weekend.
It was a small gesture, but it reflected something owners mentioned again and again: the unexpected sense of care and community that comes with Geotrek ownership.
A different kind of ownership experience
Anyone can say they care about customers. What matters is what people experience after the purchase.
At the Oregon meetup, owners spoke about the communication, support and genuine care they had received from the Geotrek team. They also spoke about the relationships they had formed with other owners.
One attendee said it was clear that the people behind Geotrek care both about the vans they build and the people using them.
Another, attending a meetup for the first time, said the experience went beyond anything she had expected.
“This community that has been built, I don’t think anything like this really exists right now.”
That is what made the weekend meaningful.
The vans created the opportunity. The people turned it into something larger.
This is what the van makes possible
A Geotrek can take you farther from home. It can give you a comfortable place to sleep, the power and water to stay longer and the freedom to change plans whenever the road leads somewhere unexpected.
But those are only the things inside the van.
The real value is what the van makes room for.
More time outside. More reasons to leave work behind. More friendships formed in places you may never have visited otherwise. More stories that begin with pulling into a campground and finding your people already there.
